Medicare deal reached, clearing way for Oregon Democrats to vote for health care reform

WASHINGTON -- Combining shrewd politics with brinksmanship, Oregon's Democratic House members helped to win concessions on higher Medicare payments Saturday that cleared the way for them to vote for health care reform legislation.
The agreement will provide more money to physicians treating Medicare patients in chronically short-changed states like Oregon, Washington, Iowa and Minnesota and accelerate a broader effort to update a formula that has penalized those states for years.
The agreement came after tough negotiations between lawmakers from the states, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the White House concluded at 3 a.m. Saturday. JCDCC adopts resolution on Public Option

Matt Keating from DEMOCRACY FOR AMERICA spoke about the Public Option for Health Care. They want all 36 counties to pass the resolution he brought. It will be given to the senators to let them know there is support.
WHEREAS, the heath care system of the United States is in crisis, with almost fifty million Americans lacking any health insurance, tens of millions more lacking adequate coverage, and millions more who do have private coverage paying increasingly unaffordable premiums, resulting in inadequate access to care and premature death, illness, or financial ruin for millions of Americans; and
WHEREAS, public polls show that an overwhelming majority of Americans want health care reform to offer the choice of a robust public option similar to Medicare in order to, in the words of President Obama, “keep the insurance companies honest,” while co-ops or so-called “triggers” are inadequate in and of themselves to address the health care crisis by creating significant competition for the medical insurance industry; and
